and other ramblings of a small business owner
Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur by Cara Alwill Leyba is an amazingly inspiring and readable book for female entrepreneurs. I loved it.
1. Am I interested?
Yes, I’m actively seeking out business books written by women because we are so under-represented. I was interested to find out Cara’s take on what makes a female entrepreneur successful.
2. Did I enjoy reading it?
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. It’s the perfect balance of advice, case studies and sections at the end of each chapter to complete, making you think about what you’ve read and how you can actively apply it to your own journey.
I’ll admit that I had a bit of trepidation in case it turned out to be overly gushy – I’m not a girly girl and can find business writing by American authors a little bit too much for my British reserve. But the book has exactly the right tone – Cara has a very natural writing style, which makes it easy to identify with her, and I could feel myself opening up to the idea of a champagne lifestyle.
3. Will it help my business?
Yes. It’s not a ‘how-to’ business book. But it has really inspired me to think about how I do business as a female business owner.
Now, what I really love about the book is the idea of women empowering women. When interacting with other female entrepreneurs it can be easy to compare myself to them and let my inadequacies come out. But if us business women really embrace the idea of supporting and empowering each other just think what we could achieve!
I will definitely be getting myself copies of Cara’s other books so I can learn more about her approach.
