and other ramblings of a small business owner
Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy is one of my all-time favourite time management/productivity books. What can I say, I love it! It’s a quick, easy, inspiring read crammed full of ways to improve your productivity.
I always find the preface a little disheartening when Tracy writes ‘the fact is that you are never going to get caught up’. Oh, but I want to get caught up! But in fact it’s more freeing than disheartening. What I need to do is stop beating myself up about never feeling like I’m on top of things (it’s not me, it’s the sheer amount there is to do) and start organising myself so that the important stuff gets done. And that is what this book is all about.
Tracy takes you through twenty-one chapters, each introducing a technique. The chapters are short and easily digestible, and Tracy keeps up a fast pace to motivate you through it. Each chapter ends with some action points to encourage you to put the techniques to work straight away. I love a book which tells you exactly what to do – a good bit of practical to go along with the theory.
I first read this book about six years ago. I got a copy out of the Library and loved it so much I instantly bought my own copy. It’s something that I read every few months and each time it gives me a renewed energy and desire to become as productive as I can. ‘Eat That Frog’ has become part of our (me and my partner’s) everyday vocabulary. ‘This is a bit of a frog’ we’ll say … or ‘I’m eating my frog’. It shows what an impact it’s had on us (and my partner hasn’t even read it).
If you haven’t read it, do. It will change the way you work … for the better.
